All About Independent Living Communities

A desire for independence starts at a young age and stays with us for the rest of our lives. This is especially true for us who are capable of taking care of ourselves, yet desire freedom from the burdens of maintaining a home.

Here’s what you need to know about considering a move to an independent living community:

What is independent living?

Independent living is an option for active, independent older adults. While there are plenty of staff members available, this community tends to be more on-demand with their services, allowing residents to enjoy freedoms in daily living. There are usually several floor plans available to meet residents’ needs and preferences for layout and size, as well as a variety of amenities and services to pursue each day.

Who should live in independent living facilities?

For those who are considering a move because of their lifestyle, independent living is an ideal option. There’s no need to take care of lawn maintenance or cook your own meals (though you’re perfectly free to do so), yet you can pursue the activities and interests that give you purpose and happiness. Living within a community, you have true independence with access to common areas and campus events.

What makes an independent living community different?

Independent living is different from other levels of care. With independent living, you plan your day. Do you enjoy a stroll on beautifully landscaped grounds in the morning? Or, maybe you prefer a cup of coffee on your private patio? You’re free to make your day your own.

Other things to know about independent living communities:

It’s also important to know that you have options for independent living. At The Glen, for example, we currently have two options for independent living: The Stiles Apartments and Redbrook (coming summer 2021). Service and amenity options vary between the two, as do your choices of floor plans but you can choose the residence that accommodates you.

If you’re interested in independent living for yourself or a loved one, consider touring one of our options at The Glen. Contact us today to schedule a visit.
