pileated woodpeckers, gray jay, common raven, yellow-bellied and alder
flycatchers, spruce grouse, boreal chickadee, rusty blackbird, Philadelphia
vireo, and many species of warblers (e.g., mourning, blackpoll, Wilson's, and
bay-breasted). We also expect to see a wide variety of butterflies and several
species of mammals, including moose.
The program fee includes all transportation between Lincoln and the
Connecticut lakes, lodging at The Glen (a wonderful northern inn), and six
meals.

Great North Woods
June 8–10, 2007
Back by popular demand is our exciting trip to
the Connecticut Lakes Region of Northern New
Hampshire.
In this northern wilderness it is possible to see
over 100 species that nest in the area. Some of
the species that make this such an amazing trip
include Black-backed Woodpecker, Gray Jay and
Spruce Grouse. When is the last time you have
seen one of those birds?
Other common nesters that we rarely get good
looks at in Rhode Island include Mourning Warbler,
Blackburnian Warbler, Wilson’s Warbler and
Lincoln’s Sparrow. Imagine seeing a family of
moose as we traverse the old logging trails in the
region; it’s not uncommon! Black Bear, Fisher,
and Snowshoe Hare are all found in the area. The
beauty of this unspoiled wilderness is staggering
and unforgettable.
We will be staying at The Glen, a rustic lodge with
modern amenities situated on First Connecticut
Lake. Our guide will be Jim Osborn who has over
20 years of experience birding the area. Many of
you know Jim as the former coordinator of Great
Expeditions for ASRI and a bird leader for many
of our Block Island birding weekends.
The fee for this trip will be $435 for members
and $485 for non-members. There will be an
additional $100 fee for participants requesting a
single private room. Transportation, program fees
and meals while we are staying at the lodge are
included in the cost.
June 8-10, 2007; Program Fee: $435/members,
$485/non-members. Course number: 034401-11

Birding the
Headwaters of the Connecticut River, New Hampshire
This program is a new venture in 2006 for Connecticut Audubon
Society. The three night stay allowed for a variety of hikes in various
locations including boreal forest, alpine regions, woodland, grassland and
fresh water marsh. The small group of five and a leader did find many
interesting species including the Grey Jay and Boreal Chickadee.
